This unit is designed for the harshest of mining operations, the sinking of a new shaft. Compressed air, the sole source of power, drives an air motor that powers a hydraulic pump and an alternator in parallel. Four explosives mixing pumps are driven and controlled in parallel to provide safe and fast explosives delivery.
I was the lead designer on this project, and played a significant role in the final outcome of the design. I also assisted in the iteration and improvement of the explosive pump.
I oversaw the fabrication of the unit as well as assisted in the electronics installation. This entire unit, from structural and pump design to electronics design, was completed by a team of 4 engineers.
